Faye McCray Appointed Chief Communications Officer at NCBE

MADISON, WISCONSIN, January 16, 2026—The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Faye McCray as its Chief Communications Officer. In this role, McCray will lead NCBE’s strategic communications with stakeholders, media, and the public. She will will play a pivotal role in communications surrounding NCBE’s transition to the NextGen Uniform Bar Exam (NextGen UBE), ensuring stakeholders are well informed, engaged, and confident throughout the process.

As the organization continues to develop products and solutions to meet the needs of an evolving industry, my focus will be on shaping a communications approach that advances transparency, confidence, and connection across the profession. McCray is an attorney and strategic communications executive with deep experience guiding organizations through change by aligning narrative, strategy, and trust. She has led enterprise communications and brand strategy across media, government, and education, partnering closely with executive teams and boards during periods of transformation, growth, and repositioning.

McCray has held cross-sector senior leadership roles, including Vice President and Head of Content at Well+Good and Livestrong; Vice President at RVO Health; Editor in Chief of Psych Central, one of the earliest digital mental health platforms; and Editor in Chief of Acquisitions and Engagement at Tax Notes, a leading publication serving the legal and tax professions. She founded Culture & Quill, a strategic communications consultancy, and served as a national small business advisor for Goldman Sachs. Before transitioning into media and communications leadership, she practiced administrative law for more than a decade. She has been recognized for her work across media, finance, and technology sectors, including being named to the Cynopsis Digital “It List.” She was also named an Aspen Ideas Fellow.

McCray holds a JD from Howard University School of Law and an MA from Johns Hopkins University. She is a member of the New York State Bar and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing.

Set to debut in July 2026, the NextGen UBE will test a broad range of foundational legal doctrine and lawyering skills in the context of the current practice of law.
