How the NextGen UBE Is Scored and Graded
The NextGen UBE produces one overall score on a 500 to 750 scale. Each jurisdiction establishes a passing score within that scale. The NextGen UBE uses a scaled score and a statistical process called equating to ensure that scores have the same meaning across different exam forms and administrations. Equating accounts for small differences in difficulty among exam forms so that examinees are not advantaged or disadvantaged based on the version of the exam they take.
Scoring and grading of the NextGen UBE are performed as follows:
- Multiple-Choice Questions: Scored by NCBE.
- Integrated Question Sets and Performance Tasks (written responses): Graded by jurisdiction-appointed graders using detailed, uniform grading rubrics provided by NCBE.
- Final Score Calculations: All scaling and equating are performed by NCBE. Final scores are calculated by NCBE.
NCBE automatically reports NextGen UBE scores to the jurisdiction in which an examinee took the exam. NextGen UBE scores are also available to examinees through their NCBE Accounts after the testing jurisdiction has announced its examination results and authorized release of the examinee’s scores.
Transferring Your NextGen UBE Score
Official NextGen UBE scores are designed to be portable to other jurisdictions that accept them. The receiving jurisdiction determines whether it will accept a transferred NextGen UBE score and whether an applicant meets its passing standard and other admission requirements. Some jurisdictions that continue to administer the legacy UBE also accept transferred NextGen UBE scores.

Because percent-below values reflect the performance of a particular group of examinees in a particular administration, they should not be compared across administrations.
No. NextGen UBE scores are not curved based on the performance of the group of examinees who test together. Your score is not determined by how well or poorly other examinees perform.
The NextGen UBE uses a statistical process called equating to ensure scores are comparable across different versions of the exam, known as exam forms, and across different administrations. Equating accounts for small differences in difficulty between exam forms so that the same scaled score represents the same level of performance, regardless of which form an examinee receives or when they take the exam.
This means your score is based on your performance on the exam and the established NextGen UBE scoring scale, not on the number or performance of other examinees testing with you.
The constructed-response questions from the July 2026 administration are not being released. To protect the integrity and security of the NextGen UBE, NCBE does not release all operational exam content at this time.
